Werewolves on Mars is Red Sun's first studio effort for Bastion Recordings and the result is six songs of bulldozing psychedelic punk rock energy, lying somewhere in the heady space between the riffs of 70s hard rock and the urgency of early American hardcore
This EP documents a band in transition. Early influences, notably Black Flag, Cream, and Fugazi, are more pronounced. The songs are straight-forward, verse/chorus/verse rock n' roll, although songs like "Ash from the Urn" and "Tienanmen" hint at a sludgy, bottom heavy sound that is more like the band's live show. Although not really ground-breaking in any way It's nice to hear a band writing songs that don't all sound the same and still manage to rock out on each track.
